To me, the most important thing for my students to take away from 4th-grade math is that math is doable, enjoyable, and everywhere. The goal for these homework calendars is to bring out the realness of the math in the student’s world. Allowing them to take ownership of their math skills and really experience the why behind their learning.
I have created these NEW homework journal calendars that are also aligned to the Eureka Math AND Engage NY curriculum, however, they step up the rigor and include more meaningful math practices. These calendars incorporate higher level thinking with real world application.
The work each week includes goal setting, online practice, review of past standards, vocabulary study, use of the standard of mathematical practice 3 – (reasoning, constructing arguments, and/or critiquing and analyzing work through), and a reflection growth piece.
I have just started this new project and am only finished with August. It is set as a PDF for now until I can complete and upload more. Please review this free download to give me feedback in moving forward.
My first project is aligned with Eureka/Engage NY also and follows their scope and sequence fluidly. The problems match up with the work in their curriculum. I love those calendars and if you are interested you can still find them in my store updated each year. They are more numerical/strategy based and give a manageable homework experience for parents and students.
