This packet contains a word work literacy menu with 9 activities for the month of August. Many centers have more than one option for differentiating instruction. These centers are common core aligned specifically for Kindergarten, but may be used for Prekindergarten and/or struggling First Graders. The activities on the menu can be used as literacy centers, early finisher activities, or in small groups.
Pattern Bock Letters: Use pattern blocks to form letters.
Read It, Make It, Write It.: Students will practice reading and writing short a word family words—ap, am, at, and ag. Depending upon the readiness of your students CVCC words are included.
Class Names Write the Room: This is an editable file so you write your students names inside the frames. Place class names around the room. Students look around to find the names of their classmates and write them down.
White Board: Practice writing letters, sight words, spelling words, etc. on white boards.
Letter Hunt: Put plastic letters in a sensory table, sensory tub, or plastic bottle filled with sand. Students will search for the letters and color in to match uppercase to uppercase, lowercase to lowercase, uppercase to lowercase, or lowercase to uppercase.
AB Pattern: Practice writing spelling words, sight words, etc. in an AB pattern.
Playdough: Use playdough to make letters, sight words, spelling words, etc.
Fancy Schmancy: Practice writing spelling words, sight words, etc. in fancy handwriting.
Back to School Alphabet: Match picture to beginning letter sound.
