Start your school year off right with a FREE sampler of my coordinating monthly calendars, reading logs and growth-mindset and responsive classroom friendly behavior reflection sheets for the month of August. If you enjoy the freebie, please check out my calendar bundle for the complete 2016-2017 school year!
The adorable August calendar is pre-printed with phases of the moon and any religious or federal holidays for this month. It is editable so that you can add important dates specific to your own school, such as the start of school, off days, birthdays, and assemblies.
The calendar includes seasonally themed artwork, a poem or children's literature excerpt, and interesting facts about the month. You can print as is, or remove any of the text elements to replace with your own announcements.
Included is a color version that can be printed and displayed in your classroom, and a black and white version that can be distributed to students without eating up your ink supply.
Included in this bundle is an August sampler of my reading log, with fonts and artwork that coordinate with the monthly calendar and behavior calendar. Students are guided to read for at least 20 minutes each night, record the book title and have an adult initial next to each entry to confirm accuracy. Students are also asked to set a reading and word study goal for each two week period, and to describe their favorite book at the end of each month.
The reading log is a pdf file, and is not editable. Copy two-sided to use one sheet of paper, per student, per month.
ALSO included in this bundle is my responsive classroom and growth-mindset friendly behavior reflection sheet for the month of August. It is an alternative to the old school behavior calendars, which place all the responsibility of evaluating student behavior on the teacher's shoulders. It is, instead, designed to be completed by the students with minimal whole-group teacher guidance. Relieve yourself of behavior calendars that reduce a students' day to a color, letter or number, and use the reflection sheets to guide students in a non-shaming, reflective exercise in accountability.
Three differentiated versions of the reflection sheets are included, and are intended for Kindergarten, First and Second through Fourth grades.
- The Kindergarten version has simple language and pictorial guidance, and asks students to evaluate their progress on being STAR students. (self-control, trying their best, attitude and respect). Students also choose an area of growth that they are most proud of for the week.
- The 1st grade version is similar to Kindergarten, with slightly more sophisticated language and expanded options for choosing the area of growth they are most proud of for the week.
- The 2nd - 4th grade version asks students to evaluate their effort and attitude as well as explain how they have shown growth in one academic or character building area each day. They are also asked to reflect on what they have learned from a mistake each week.
