PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This great math and literacy packet can be used in so many ways! It is a fairy tale themed packet, so it is perfect for your monthly centers and could even be used year round.

This will be perfect for your math centers, literacy centers, morning work, or even for enrichment for those early finishers you have!

It is common core aligned and each common core standard is printed right there on the bottom of the page so that you don't have to search for standards. Since this is a back to school packet, most pages have two standards listed - one for first grade and one for second. This is so that you can easily see how the standards tie together and what skills your students should have mastered. Each activity serves as a stepping stone to second grade standards.

It is a print and go packet, meaning that you can print and hand out - no prep needed. Every sheet is labeled with an, "I Can" statement so that your students can easily see their learning goals for the day. Answer keys are included for all necessary sections, so you can easily check work or even allow students to evaluate their own work. I Can Find Short and Long Vowel Sounds (RF.1.2a - RF.2.3a) - Students will use clues to guess long and short vowel one-syllable words, then will determine if they are long or short vowel sounds.

I Can Choose Collective Nouns (L.1.1b - L.2.1a) - Students will choose the proper collective noun to complete each sentence.

I Can Use Irregular Plural Nouns (L.1.1 – L.2.1b) – Students will choose the correct irregular plural noun to complete each sentence.

I Can Find Reflexive Pronouns (L.1.1d – L.2.1c) – Students will identify the reflexive pronoun in each sentence.
I Can Use Adjectives to Describe Things (L.1.1f – L.2.1e) – Students will be given various pictures and will develop adjectives to describe what they see.

I Can Use a Dictionary to Check Spelling (L.1.2e – L.2.2e) – Students will be given pictures and various spellings for words. They will then use a dictionary from their classroom to check the spelling and choose the correctly spelled words.

I Can Use Context Clues to Find Meaning (L.1.4a – L.2.4a) – Students will use context clues in various sentences to determine meaning and then provide a synonym.

I Can Identify Root Words (L.1.4c – L.2.4c) – Students will identify the root of several words and then explain what the term means in their own words.

I Can Tell the Difference Between Similar Words (L.1.5d – L.2.5b) – Students will demonstrate ability to distinguish between similar words by following directions to color a picture based on shades of meaning.

I Can Create an Array (1.G.A.3 – 2.G.A.2) – Students will follow directions from Jack and the Beanstalk’s giant to create arrays.

I Can Separate Shapes Into Sections (1.G.A.3 – 2.G.A.3) – Students will divide various pictures into sections based on given directions.

I Can Solve Words Problems (1.OA.1 – 2.OA.A.1) – Students will solve various word problems.

I Can Add and Subtract Within Twenty (1.OA.C.6 – 2.OA.B.2) – Students will solve various one and two digit addition and subtraction problems within twenty.

I Can Find Odd and Even Numbers (1.NBT.A.1 – 2.OA.C.3) – Students will count objects in each box and circle groups of two. They will then determine if the box shows and odd or even number of items.

I Can Count to Find How Many in an Array (1.NBT.A.1 – 2.OA.C.4) – Students will count items in a given array to determine how many there are.

I Can Count by Ones and Twos (1.NBT.A.1 – 2.NBT.A.2) – Students will count up from various given numbers by ones and twos.
