School Supply Problems: Place Value to 1000
Have students practice place value within 1000 with this fun back to school math game! Students attempt to fill up their book bag with the school supplies they need from their supply list before any other player. It's great in math centers, with partners, or for a group of up to four students. Students answer a game card with a math equation on it. If they get it correct, they close their eyes and take a school supply out of the shopping cart. The school supply may be something they need or it not help them at all! It's all about the luck of the draw and that's what makes the game so exciting! The first person to find all items on their supply list wins!
Football: Let’s Tackle Adding 3 Numbers
Students answer football themed questions where they add 3 numbers together. They get to move the football towards the touchdown line each time they get an answer correct. Whoever gets the most touchdowns by the end of the game wins! There are chance cards included to spice the game up by changing game play or helping out each team. This is a great game to practice 2nd grade standards.
Needy Teachers: Geometry
Each teacher needs a different type of shape. The students have to sort the shapes as quickly as possible to the the "needy teachers." Students have to use their knowledge of 3.G.1 to help them figure out where each shape, quadrilateral, and polygon goes.
Line Them Up: Expanded Form
Students have to line up the cards in the correct order while practicing putting large numbers between 1-1000 in expanded form. There are TWO sets included so two teams can race against each other to see who wins. The nice thing about this game is that it's self checking; if students put the cards in the wrong order, they'll be able to tell at the end.
Bus Mix Up: Even or Odd Numbers
Students sort each bus full of students into the even or odd piles. It's a great back to school game where students get to practice telling the difference between even and odd (2nd grade skill).
Whiteboard Whiz: Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction
There are 24 whiteboard whiz task cards included that involved multi-digit addition and subtraction for third graders (3.NBT.3). The kids race to see who can be a whiteboard whiz and solve the most cards by the end of the game. You could also adapt this game to be a SCOOT or whole group game as well.
QR Codes: Back to School Rounding
There are 3 QR Code games included where students round numbers within 100 to the nearest ten, numbers within 1000 to the nearest ten, and numbers within 1000 to the nearest hundred. Each time a student solves a card, they scan the QR code and write down the corresponding letter on the mystery phrase page. Whenever they've solved all the cards, they mystery phrase is revealed! This aligns with 3.NBT.2.
Money Match Up: Practice with Money
The teacher needs help figuring out how much each of the school supplies costs for her classroom. Match up each money amount with each item's price tag to help the teacher out! Aligns with second grade money standards.
The Great Bus Race: Word Problems
In this game, students race as buses through the game board to be the first person to the finish. Each time they solve an addition or subtraction word problem, they get to spin the wheel and move forward on the game board. Cute buses are included as game pieces to move through the game.
Library Troubles: Add and Subtract Fact Families
Students have to figure out which books go together based on addition and subtraction fact families. I like to have my students play this game to help them prepare for when we will eventually learn multiplication and division fact families. This helps them make the connection that numbers are connected and addition and subtraction are the opposite of each other. In this game, students have to match up the correct library books and race their partner to see who can get the most fact families.
