The treasure hunt was created to serve as an engaging & fun introductory activity for students to complete before reading Wilson's work. In particular, it is well-suited for Wilson's Gem of the Ocean and as a general introduction to August Wilson.
The overarching goals of the August Wilson Treasure Hunt are for students to develop their ability to explore, research, analyze, collect, and discuss information using August Wilson's work as the catalyst for learning.
Students may complete the hunt individually or in small groups. Once they are done, students should be encouraged to share out their learnings. The teacher may use the share out as an opportunity to expand and unpack the information gleaned from the experience.
Estimated time: 1-2 class periods.
