Happy New Year! And what a better way to practice "tom-ti" (dotted quarter-single eighth note) then through this beloved Scottish poem by Robert Burns (that was set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud #6294). While associated with New Years Day, it is also traditional to sing this at funerals, graduations and as a farewell or ending to other occations.
This PDF can easily be tranfered into a PowerPoint and be used to reinforce tom-it. Additionally, it is great practice of the extended do-pentatone, including low la, low sol and high do. Students can practice their solfége reading skills by reading the solfa through both stick and staff notations. There is also a slide from which students can read the song on absolute pitch names.
