A fun and engaging collection of 7 activities to teach your students all about Australian money! The below activities will allow your children to identify, recognise and to describe all of the features of Australian coins including their shapes and animals. This resource includes the following activities:
‘Dollars or Cents?’
In this activity students explore how Australian coins don’t all look the same. They have different colours, shapes and sizes. Students then cut out the coins and sort them in Dollars or Cents.
‘Let’s go shopping!’
This is an extremely fun activity whereby students ‘Go Shopping’ for items such as teddy bears, toys and cupcakes. They must stick the coins next to each item to show the totals of each.
Some of the coins are missing their numbers! Can your students remember which number goes on which coin?
In this activity students demonstrate their knowledge of coin adding. They look at each money box and calculate the amounts in each.
‘Rub the Coins!’
This fun activity requires some Australian coins. The children use a pencil to shade over the coins and then watch as their coins appear.
‘Lowest to Highest’
This simple activity allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of lowest to highest coins.
In this activity students colour in and match the native Aussie animals (Echidna, Kangaroo and Platypus), to the coin that they appear on.
I hope your students love this unit as much as mine did!
