This unit is a perfect introduction to money. The posters are great to explore and identify different types of money.
The ‘Piggy bank money’ can be used to sort, order and explore money.
The game ‘Earning money’ is a fun way for students to collect money by completing chores.
• You can use play money and students draw a card and then they collect that amount of money. Students have to add up their money as they go. The winner is the child with the most money at the end.
• Alternatively you can play a matching game or memory game by matching the chore to the correct piggy bank.
Let’s go shopping
• Students can use their money earned by completing chores to go shopping. What can they buy?
• Alternatively students can match the purses or play money to the shopping cards.
The activities can be differentiated by reducing and increasing the number of cards as needed.
Coin number lines
Counting by 5 cents and 10 cents number lines. Two versions - with and without numbers. These are great for those students that find it difficult to add up their money.
