I'm Zac, a secondary English teacher from Australia. Let me tell your more about this resource.
This 21 page powerpoint introduces senior secondary students (Year 10 to 12) to the Australian play "Cosi" by Louis Nowra.
This is an off-the-wall larrakin play about outsiders, patients in a mental institution in Melbourne during the Vietnam war. I actually use this play most successfull with EALD and ESL students who love learning about the expressions and idiomatic language of Australian English. The powerpoint slides contain the following:
-funny warnings to engage students
-setting details including social and historical context
-characters overview and a detailed slide for each character with key quotes from the play
-plot summary of all acts and scenes
-detailed explanation of stage directions with examples
-analysis of symbols and themes
I use the first part of this powerpoint as a general introduction and overview to the play. The second part of the powerpoint I use when I am teaching students to understand how to read and write effective stage directions such as asides and pause, including correct play script formatting in italics etc. The detailed character slides are also a great reference point for students when they want to better understand each character.
Included in the powerpoint is a link to the VCE study guide which contains more detailed thematic analysis (https://www.vcestudyguides.com/blog/cosi)
I hope you find this helpful. If you have a question, please ask and I'll respond within 48 hours. Also, if you have time please check out my other resources, including the freebies.
Good luck and if you no one else tells you, you are making a difference. Thanks for being a teacher.
