Teaching your Spanish students about schools in other countries? Let them learn about schools in Guatemala through this authentic listening activity. While studying abroad in Guatemala, my colleague and I recorded an interview with a secondary teacher asking her several questions about her school and schools in general in her country.
The interview (audio, not video) is six minutes long and is a MP3 file. You will receive it with your download along with a one page student activity sheet (in an editable Word document format) for students to complete during listening. The student activity sheet is entirely in Spanish and contains 11 questions in a variety of formats including cierto/falso, multiple choice, and fill-in-the-blank.
I typically use this activity with Spanish II students, but it would be a great activity for higher levels as well. I have also tried it with second semester Spanish I students. It worked well, but I made sure to go over each question on the student activity sheet with them prior to listening to ensure that they understood all of the questions.
I love using authentic materials with my students whenever possible. This audio activity is great for students because it does not have the perfectly clear, slow-paced speech with watered down vocabulary that many textbook audio activities contain. However, your students will definitely be able to understand and will gain confidence in their ability to comprehend speakers in the real world.
I hope you and your students enjoy this activity! Feel free to message me with any questions. Check out my other AUTHENTIC ACTIVITIES
