Description

This writing unit is all about author studies to help develop voice. There are lessons on developing characters and word choice. Students will learn about the writing style of 4 authors. They will practice this style as a first step to learning how to develop their own voice.


The writing skills that are highlighted in this unit are:

  • learning about "voice" in writing
  • learning about various authors and mimicking the style in own writing
  • genres of writing
  • different styles of writing based on genre
  • how to use an author trait tracker
  • humor in writing
  • editing for voice
  • connecting to events in a story to support own writing

This unit is JAM PACKED with ideas to teach writing every day.
