My 9th grade students LOVED this activity!
This activity is paced for a 90 minute blocked class. However, the activity could be done over the course of 2 class periods! (It might even add to the suspense!)
I started by introducing students to the title of the work being studied: "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe. The slides within the presentation include all of the following:
-A linked Video Biography of Edgar Allan Poe's life.
-A linked Audio Reading of The Tell-Tale Heart. (YouTube video)
-A linked Video Clip from a modern television show that incorporates Poe's work.
-A linked PDF text version of Poe's story.
-An Initial Prediction Question
-An Argumentative Reflection & Discussion Question
For a technology aspect, send the students the link to the PDF or give them access to the presentation. Students will be able to pull the PDF up on their computer and follow along. I also suggest projecting the Audio Video on your projector screen and turning the lights in the classroom off to create an eerie "mood"!
For a classroom that isn't 1:1, just simply print off the PDF, make copies, and distribute! You can still project the Audio Video!
