Welcome to the Author Study Book. Author studies can be a lot of fun. As a librarian I do author studies all the time, and I created this book for students to follow along and tell me what books they liked and didn’t like as we read them.
This worksheet will work well with students from kindergarten through third grade. Teacher will need to provide students with information about the author so the students can write the author’s name and one thing they learned about the author including circling if the author is male/female, alive/dead, and author/illustrator or both on the first page of the book Students can also draw or paste a picture of the author on the first page.
The grade report worksheets give students the chance to write about the author’s books on a worksheet with a report card graphic. They can draw a picture from the book in the space provided. Students will fill out information on the book including title, author, and why the student likes or dislikes the book. They also grade whether the book has good pictures/photos, a good story/information, and if it is interesting to the student by coloring the smiley faces with a green smile or red frown. Younger students can have books by the author read to them, and older students can grade these books after reading the books themselves. Teachers may want to fill in various information in before copying to help younger students finish the page.
The final page asks students to think about one thing they liked and disliked about the author. They also write about their favorite and least favorite books by the author. This page may be omitted for younger students.
