The author study project is meant to incorporate reading, writing, and research into a trimester long literacy project. This project aims to address reading for both a recreational and close-reading purpose. Recreational reading affords the student the sole opportunity to improve his/her primary reading skills, especially fluency and comprehension. While close-reading the student is expected to not only read the text, but study it and recall its content for assessment.
In this project, students are expected to choose an author whose life and works they would like to research. They will also be responsible for reading 3 books of their choice written by the author, as well as other tasks.
This project includes:
•A detailed outline of project goals and expectations that can be passed out to students/parents
•A research guide that will help students collect and organize their research
•A list of possible author choices
•A grading sheet that outlines how points are distributed throughout the project
This project is leveled and written for a 4th grade classroom, but can easily be adapted to fit any reading level or classroom by simply altering the Word documents.
