What educators are saying

We really enjoyed using this, and it gave a very visual and understandable picture about the authority figures!
My students loved this resource! It really helped solidify their understanding of authority figures.

Description

This project uses concentric circles to help students understand the different levels of leadership at work in our society.

It can be easily altered to be appropriate for different age levels, languages, and kinds of public officials and leaders.

This activity includes:
- a series of pre-labeled concentric circles for kids to cut out and decorate
- a series of unlabeled concentric circles for kids to cut out, label, and decorate
- discussion questions and vocabulary to introduce kids to key terms and concepts

Students will:
- cut out circles
- draw pictures for "My President," "My Governor," "My Mayor," My Principal," "My Teacher," and "Me"
- write the actual names of these authority figures, public officials, and leaders
- connect them with a brad or ring in order from smallest to largest

This project can be used in a community unit, a social studies class, a foreign language or ESL class, or a lesson as children are learning their personal information.

It is a great follow-up activity to the best-selling "My Place in the World" activity, which can be found here:
