Mentor sentences on the iPad! Find and celebrate great writing and author’s craft by easily integrating this low prep & creative iPad activity into your reading or writing workshop, centers or whole group lessons.
Students will use the included sheets to first look for a mentor sentence in any fiction text that is an example of a specific author’s craft technique. Next they will display their mentor sentences as a quote poster on the free app InstaQuote! Not only will students enjoy searching for mentor sentences to make their posters, but they will be motivated to try out the techniques in their own writing.
Packet includes everything your students need to complete the project on the app independently:
★ 4 Visual step-by-step student direction pages for using the app InstaQuote, taking pictures on the iPad and cropping their quote posters.
★ 3 Differentiated graphic organizer options to help students plan their work, including one that allows the teacher to write in the author’s craft techniques.
★ 1 Anchor chart reviewing the purpose of a mentor sentence to display.
★ 1 Work sample
★ 1 Rubric for assessing student work
You will need the free app InstaQuote. A QR code to download the app from the iTunes store is included in this packet. Students will also need access to fiction books in the classroom.
Since my products all utilize free web and app resources, there may be rare times that the technology does not work as planned, which may be out of my control. Please be sure to message me in the Q&A section so I can assist you before leaving feedback. I use all of the apps that I base my packets on frequently and will update products as the apps themselves update.
