An author's purpose is important for all students to understand. Use this project to teach the author's purpose by helping students understand how different authors write. One will be able to show students how using the exact same picture can transcend writing styles in various forms. This project will teach students how an author can describe, inform, explain, persuade, and entertain.
Students will look at the slides and discover different ways that authors/writers incorporate the teacher model. Students can use the accompanying slides to create their own style and identify the author's purpose. This can be presented to the class or used in small groups.
To ensure an adequate level of understanding, use the quiz for a simple comprehension check. A rubric is also included for easy assessment.
