As students read, they are surrounded by information and the need or ability/skill to figure out exactly why authors wrote the text (story, drama, poetry or passage). So when teachers teach the author’s purpose, most students have already heard the acronym "P.I.E." in the elementary level. In this downloadable, the acronym PIE has 2 more section added to it. Now it can be extended or known as PIE’ED which stands for (persuade, inform, entertain, explain & describe). The two sections have been added to accommodate different terminologies used during testing procedures that extend beyond persuade, inform, and entertain (P.I.E) which may appear in testing formats causing our students to fail this area.
