This is an Author’s Purpose Sorting Center with Differentiated passages from Level A through K. It is never too soon to start teaching Author’s Purpose. This center will help students begin to analyze a passage and determine if the author’s purpose was to inform, persuade, or entertain.
This center is great for small groups or center work. It works well in a multilevel classroom, and is especially great for students who are English Language Learners. At times in the mid and upper grades it is hard to instruct Author’s Purpose with lower level readers. This center will make it so much easier.
How to use:
1. Select cards for the group or students reading level.
2. Have them read the passage and determine which sorting page it should go onto (Inform, persuade, Entertain) Each sorting page has a definition and questions the reader can ask themselves (or you can use to prompt them) to help them determine the purpose.
A teachers guide with the passages level and their purpose identified is included.
