This mini-project focuses on the concept of AUTHOR'S PURPOSE and consists of two components (each on a different page):
1. Author's Purpose Identification Chart, which outlines the three basic types of Author's Purpose and emphasizes the common acronym "PIE" (Persuade, Inform, Entertain). There is also a practice section at the bottom of the chart, so students can apply their knowledge of Author's Purpose.
2. Author's Purpose Mini-Project, which requires students to apply their knowledge of AUTHOR'S PURPOSE by identifying the three types in various media sources. This also allows students to do some critical thinking, requiring them to justify their selections by writing out explanations.
* NOTE: To save paper, there are two charts on the first sheet and two mini-projects on the second sheet. If you are able to print double-sided handouts, it is very convenient to print this handout front-and-back, then cut them in half.
