This product is designed to reinforce the concept of Author’s Purpose when taught using a Persuade, Inform, Entertain (P.I.E.) anchor chart.
*Bonus: An Author’s Purpose PIE anchor chart, Fill-in graphic organizer, and Library Scavenger Hunt activity booklet have been included in this packet.
This product contains 88 task cards, 44 in black and white and 44 in color. Each task card contains the title of a children’s book and the author’s name.
Ideas for Using these Task Cards:
After teaching students the elements of Author’s Purpose using the P.I.E. presentation method, use the task cards to practice and reinforce the skill:
Read the cards aloud to a group, ask them to identify the author’s purpose and why they think that is the answer.
Divide cards equally among the students. Choose a place for each type of Author’s Purpose to be stacked. Ask students to place their cards on the correct stack. Check the stack as a group.
Create a center.
Create flip cards by punching a book ring hole in each pie piece.
I have included an answer key for you to print and attach to the back of each pie piece if you choose. If you choose to use these cards as a 'scoot' activity, you may not want the answers on the pieces. Cards are included in groups of 14 in PIE order.
I cut my pie pieces out because I prefer the look of an actual piece of pie. You can also cut them into half sheets of paper for larger task cards.
If you use the black and white slides and copy them on colored paper, be sure to note that the slides are grouped into P.I.E. groups. Copy them all on the same color or, if you choose to use more than one color be sure to stack your copy paper accordingly. It would be best for students if the titles weren’t color coded by Author’s Purpose.
