This product contains 12 passages to help students determine the author’s purpose for writing a passage. These passages include what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe as stated in the standard. There are also passages where students have to determine why the author wrote the passage: to entertain, inform, or explain.
The passages are best suited for second grade, but they can be beneficial for special education students or students in third grade who may need extra practice with this skill.
These passages can be used for small groups, literacy centers, morning work, homework, independent work, or in a whole group lesson.
