This product is a great activity for students to reinforce or enhance their author’s purpose skills. This activity was designed in a way for students to work in teams and compete against other teams in the class. This author’s purpose activity was designed to be play in teams of 3-6 students. The students work together to identify the author’s purpose of the stories, titles, ads, etc. listed on the pie pans. Prior to the start of this activity the actual pie pieces that have (persuade, inform, and entertain) are hidden around the classroom. (It is up to you how challenging those hiding place are). Each team will identify what piece they need to cover each section of their pie. Once they think they have correctly matched all their pieces. The teacher will evaluate if all their pieces are correctly match. If they are they win! If not, the teacher will help guide them in identifying the incorrect matches by asking students questions that will help lead them to the correct answers. *Optional Idea: Once the winning team as been determined., give them the prize you choose. (I personally gave my winning team a sugar-free pie of their choice.)
