This author's purpose PowerPoint contains 53 slides. It features 5 types of author's purpose: persuade, inform, entertain, explain, and describe. After providing definitions and examples, students are given the opportunity to read passages and determine the author's purpose. In this PowerPoint, not only are students required to provide the verb (persuade, inform, entertain, explain, or describe), but they are also expected to complete the statement and tell WHAT the author is trying to explain, inform, or describe or HOW the author is trying to persuade or entertain the reader.

***A 3-page PowerPoint companion handout is also included in this file. Students can follow along and record answers on this handout as you progress through the PowerPoint! The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format. The digital version is compatible with Google Slides.**
