This is an author’s purpose activity that can stand alone or be used with any book. This was made with 2nd graders in mind, but could easily be used for 1st or 3rd graders also. The first part is a Four Corner’s game. Cut apart and tape the Author’s Purpose categories in four different areas of your room. Read or have a student read one of the stories and have the class go to the purpose they think matches the story. Continue as long as you wish. Follow with the Author’s Purpose page. These sheets can be used as a quick assessment for author’s purpose. It could also be used for whole or small group instruction or a reading station. The students can work on this sheet independently with little or no help from me.
