It is important for students to be able to identify the reason why an author has written a piece of text. Knowing an author’s purpose helps the reader to analyze information more thoughtfully. Identifying an author’s purpose may give clues to a reader for how to pace their reading. For example, informational articles may require a reader to slow down in order to fully understand ideas described.

Printing and Cutting:
These cards were designed to be printed in color, but will print well in gray scale too. I prefer to print mine on cardstock for greater durability. Trim the outer edges using the checkered border as the guideline. Then divide the cards between the white spaces. Laminating is optional. Store in plastic pouch or on a metal ring.
