Author's purpose is a tough skill for students to grasp, and this set of task cards goes beyond the simple PIE!
Colorful posters are included for the 5 reasons authors read: PIE'ED.
There are 24 task cards in the pack, all with interesting subjects students will enjoy. Each card requires students to identify the author's purpose, give evidence, and tell why the author included a specific part, something asked on many standardized tests. I have also included "Oops!" cards to make it a game for the students, if desired. All of the cards are in both color and black and white for your printing preferences.
There is also an activity where students read an article or piece of their own and answer questions about it to tell about different aspects of author's purpose. I used a popular children's magazine for this activity.
The final activity allows students to create their own passage about a subject of their choice with a specific purpose.
These are great for whole class, small group, or even literacy centers.
**Please note that 7 of the pages are the black and white versions of the cards.**
