PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This mini-unit guides students in analyzing text for author's purpose and distinguishing between differing points of view and how they are conveyed. There are three lessons in this unit, and a unit overview is provided as well. The lessons all use the theme of organic food as a basis for which to compare.

Lesson 1: Students analyze text using SOAPS to determine the author's purpose of four texts.
Lesson 2: Students collaborate with each other in a Chalk Talk and use a graphic organizer to determine each article's point of view using text evidence.
Lesson 3: Students choose from four activities on a choice board to explain each article's point of view, along with their own. Great for differentiation!

In addition to the unit overview and lesson plans, the SOAPS chart, graphic organizer, and choice board with rubric are included. There are also links to each of the four articles that the students will use.

Thanks for looking at my product! There is also a related mini-unit on analyzing text at my store, The Literacy Lounge. Please check it out!
