After studying author's purpose, students will apply their knowledge about the three types of author's purpose (inform, entertain, and persuade) to the newspaper. They summarize, citing evidence from each article as to why it supports their claim (Common Core) and then must transform each piece into a different author's purpose.
This project is aligned with:
R.L. 7.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
R.I.7.6. Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text.
This activity addresses some of the biggest components of Common Core: citing evidence, justifying claims, and creating their own piece.
