These practical-use pages are perfect for ANY situation: Whether you are just beginning to teach author's purpose, students need some additional practice or clarification, or if refreshers are needed throughout the year, these pages will do the trick! These pages can be used per story/article/or chapter since they are tied to the main idea/theme. I often use them as an informal assessment; they have helped me to correct student misconceptions in the following areas: genre identification/author's purpose/main idea/theme.
Students will read ANY text, decide the genre from a menu of options, record the author's purpose with a supporting quote, and record 3 supporting details of either the author's purpose or main idea/theme.
