I created a consequence map using picture prompts (ie. Boardmaker) to visually show appropriate and inappropriate behaviors during class. This clearly defines expectations and consequences for students, especially those on the Autism spectrum. I tape it to my students' desks and I can simply tap their choice to non-verbally remind them. I also included "Quiet Work Rules"- which I cut in half, laminate, and pass out or project during small group, partner, or independent work as a reminder of the expectations. I teach self-contained LEAD (AUT) in middle school and many of my students respond very well to picture prompts!
