This comprehension preview template is great for previewing stories with your students who have autism or your ESL students. It is meant for students whose language impairments prevent them from seeing the “big picture” when they read stories. They may have difficulty understanding the social context; identifying characters’ emotions; connecting causes and effects; understanding pronoun referents; understanding idioms; and making inferences. It makes sense to preview stories with these students, who cannot make any sense of stories on their own. Why leave them wondering what the story is about? By following this template, teachers can help their language impaired students comprehend a story they are about to hear or read.
*Also included in this packet is a post reading comprehension template.
