Another dilemma faced by many special educators is when students don’t get enough sleep, have anxiety which affects sleep patterns, have been diagnosed with ADHD or ASD or both and cant’t sleep well at night.
In helping address this problem with some of my students, I made this social story about school is not for sleeping, school is for learning.
I was able to re-direct the unwanted behavior by presenting the social story and providing my students other options such as walking, or body stretches.
Why is it important to address unwanted behaviors with your students diagnosed with ASD?
-It helps bring awareness
-It improves understanding with visual support
-It helps improve self-regulation
