I have been teaching individuals who have Autism for 11 years, and over those 11 years I have seen many individuals struggle recalling the state they live in. I live in Ohio, and when I ask my students: "What state do you live in?" I see a lot of difficultly when they are trying to answer.
The following token board uses the Boardmaker state. The name of the state and capital can be seen. The tokens are of a symbol that represent the state (a little fun fact ;-). )
Token Board: State of New Hampshire
Tokens: State Sport: Skiing
This is a 5 token token board. I have included extra tokens, because the tokens get lost easily.
This is an: "I am working for..." token board. There are five basic choices a student with Autism can make. Choices are: snack, swing, computer, puzzle or walk.
How to put together:
--Print out on card stock and laminate (if available).
--Cut out the tokens and choice visuals.
--Use soft and hard velcro dots and strips.
--Put soft dots in the squares of the token board.
--Put hard dots on the back of the tokens and choice visuals.
--To keep everything together, put strips of soft velcro on the back of the token board for easy access to tokens and choices.
