PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is an excerpt from Lucy Grealy’s “Mirrorings: A Gaze Upon My Reconstructed Face.” Lucy Grealy originally wrote this piece and then developed it into her memoir, Autobiography of a Face. This is a high interest article for students and is relative to students’ lives because so many share similar experiences of feeling like an outsider, longing for acceptance, etc., but ultimately, this is an activity to differentiate between academic and social vocabulary, and explore descriptive language. I’ve included a lesson plan for you to submit to make your life all the more easier with Activator, Mini Lesson, Activity and handout, Wrap Up, Homework, and ELA Common Core Standards. This activity helps all students understand and dissect material as it has a variety of excellent academic vocabulary examples and would be beneficial to ELL students as well because it mirrors in many ways how our ELL students must dissect material. Best, Rockermom
