This autumn- themed packed contains 8 pages of fun activities. It addresses simple math, reading comprehension, and writing, as well as fine motor skills, such as coloring, cutting, and pasting.
Page 1: Cover sheet. Students can color the letters in to work on fine motor skills. Name goes on page 1.
Pages 2-4: Basic addition, perfect for teaching students basic addition. All addends and totals are less than ten. Worksheets contain 11 basic addition problems with colorful and simple clip art pictures. Directions: Students are to count the first set of objects and write the number in the box. Then they count the second set, write the number in the box, and then they have created an addition problem. By counting ALL of the pictures, students begin to understand that combining sets gives them the total.
Clip art pictures are used to show concrete objects for students with special needs to count.
Page 5-6: Fill in the blanks, reading comprehension
Page 5 is the questions, page 6 is the answers.
Students are to read the 6 sentences/questions and figure out what goes in the blank.
Students are given several choices to choose from on page 6. Answers are Boardmaker symbols. Students are to cut out the answer, and then paste it in the box on page 5.
Page 7: Color-coded sentence building
This activity is perfect for teaching students about the mechanics of a sentence.
- 4 sentences are provided, each in a fall-colored box
- teacher or student cuts out the words/pictures on the black lines
- place all word/picture cards together jumbled up
- students use colors, shapes, and sentence clues to create a simple sentence.
- simple sight words are used so that students can read the words and sentence before and after they are cut
Students can use the clues in the sentence to decide which word goes first by the capital letter, and which word goes last with the end punctuation. They can also use the colors to help them, as well as the shapes of the words.
Boardmaker pictures are used to simplify the definitions for students with special needs.
When I use this activity with my class, I glue the sentences onto index cards to give them longer life. Another option is to give each student a set, and they can glue the sentences on a piece of paper.
Page 8: Acrostic Poem
This page has the word "Autumn" down the side, which students can color. Students are to think of words that start with each letter in the word and write it on the line. For students who need assistance, teacher can write the word with a highlighter and student can trace it.
Packet would be excellent for general education Pre-K through possibly grade 1, also for all grades with special education students.
