This exciting fall experiment with Close Reading Unit combines two of my other resources. The hands-on lab will demonstrate that green deciduous leaves have other pigments hidden within. Following the simple directions, students will see the other colors within a leaf appear. There are three interactive notebook flaps included to go with the lab and a slide show that explains the scientific information. This is a really fun and easy experiment to do with simple household materials. The results are dramatic and exciting.
This resource also has a CLOSE Reading Activity for 6th Grade that is aligned with CCSS for reading informational text for 6th Grade. It includes a scientific nonfiction passage (3 pages) explaining why and how autumn leaves of deciduous trees change colors. This resource includes interactive notebook flaps and folds and response pages with text dependent questions. This resource is full of lots of activities to help your students dive into this scientific text and learn about the processes happening within the leaves.
