Before students can master writing essays, they must first master a solid paragraph. This writing activity is ideal for the beginning of the year because it's goal is to help students create a solid paragraph in a fun way. It mainly focuses on two of the 6 Traits: Organization and Word Choice. Students will use their senses to brainstorm descriptive details about autumn leaves (word choice), and will then practice organizing their thoughts into a solid paragraph with an introduction, body, and closing. Teachers can follow the suggestions for instruction, or adapt it to fit their needs. 3rd grade is the targeted audience, but it could also be modified for 2nd and 4th grades.
This project includes the following:
Teacher Notes page
Easy to use sensory chart
Fill in the blank graphic organizer used as a rough draft
Final draft template
Autumn leaves art project, which can then be used for student presentations
Kid friendly art project expectations page
Art project picture examples
Enrichment activity for students who finish their paragraphs early
I hope you and your students enjoy this project as much as my past students have! I value your feedback!
