Autumn Reading Comprehension Task Cards is a set of 30 half-page task cards. Each card includes an original reading passage on a topic related to autumn, fall holidays, or fall activities. There are six cards each on the following reading skills:

main ideas and supporting details

using context clues

cause and effect

sequence of events

fact or opinion

Each card includes several short questions or another type of reading response such as writing a short paragraph, drawing, or completing a graphic organizer. These task cards are designed specifically for middle-grade kids. The cards are large – two cards per page and have more content per card than many of the smaller task cards – perfect for older kids who can handle more than one quick question per card.

Seasonal activities such as these fall task cards take advantage of kids' interest in fun current events such as football and outdoor autumn activities to spark interest in topics such as reading skills that are repeated from year to year. They are great for a seasonal review of basic reading skills.

Included with this set is a blank answer sheet for students to fill in their answers.

The cards can be used for differentiation with activities such as centers, stations, and small group or individual activities, and they are also fun for whole class activities such as games of Scoot or Footloose. Task cards also work well to determine which students need to work on which skills. Included in this set is a list of suggestions for more ways to use task cards and a list of suggestions for easy differentiation with task cards.

The Easel Activity is a digital version that is ready to use with one card per slide. It is ready for student use with answer boxes and directions already in place.

For the Google Slides version, see Autumn Task Cards and Google Slides.

Autumn task cards support a number of the reading standards such as determining main ideas, using context clues, and identifying plot sequence. The focus of this set is on reading skills, text structures, and using text evidence.
