These autumn vocabulary riddle activities are a fun-filled and engaging way to build seasonal vocabulary and to lay the groundwork for early comprehension skills like inference & drawing conclusions. Great for SLP lessons, too!

Your students will have fun solving these fall riddles as you guide them in comprehension-building skills like identifying key details and answering key questions.

What does this set of vocabulary riddles include?

✅ 24 autumn riddle cards, printing at two per page

✅ 24 picture/word answer cards

✅ 24 sets of matching cards

✅ The same 24 riddles in full-page format for your interactive board or digital devices

Ready-to-use Easel digital overlay for all 24 riddles

✅ A writing template for your students to compose their own winter riddles

✅ A four in a row board game to reinforce the same vocabulary words

How are teachers using these autumn riddle cards?

* As a whole class or small group activity, demonstrate how to integrate the information in the clues and use the information to eliminate incorrect choices.

* After solving together, use them as a pocket chart literacy center matching activity.

* As a small group or literacy center game, use with the board game that is included (uses the same vocabulary).

* Literacy intervention teachers, riddles are great for practicing identifying key details and drawing conclusions. They're fun to use as short reading passages, too.

* Use the included writing template to create more riddles together. Ideas are included to extend this into a speaking and listening activity.

* The full-page format that's in the pdf file will allow you to easily use the riddles on your interactive board for shared reading.

* SLPs are using these for language development sessions.

* For students able to read the riddles independently, use the Easel file as an independent activity or for fast finishers.
