This communicative activity is designed for, but not limited to, Avancemos 1 Unit 6 Lesson 1. I also have used it for Realidades Tema 4. I have uploaded as a word document in a standard font so you can change the content or add more sports. I have added a few more sports, keeping in mind the interests of my students at the time I created it.
First, students record their opinion about certain sports. Then, they circulate the room, asking their classmates their opinion: Do you prefer to play or watch _________(sport)? Students can also answer with "It's all the same to me."
At the bottom, there are personal statements about sports and students again fill in their own opinion.
This can take as little as 10 minutes, but I have stretched it out by asking for opinions, taking informal polls by students raising hands and taking tallies. Then we create comparative statements orally or on white boards: _________ is less popular than _________, thus continuing the discussion. I have even brought in some cultural aspects like the popularity of baseball in Central America and soccer in Spain...etc, thus continuing the comparative structure.
Thanks for looking, and make sure to check out my other Avancemos and Realidades 1 and 2 materials. Have a great year!
