As this particular lesson mentions singers contributing to good causes, I have included a reading about Shakira & the non-profit organization ALAS which supports early childhood development programs for children in Latin America. There are 2 sets of 10 comprehension questions, one in English and the other in Spanish. Also included is a short explanation about the song sung by Shakira at the 2010 World Cup and its controversy. ( Waka, waka ,Esto es Africa) There are 2 discussion questions for students to answer or discuss in groups and the song itself with blanks for listening comprehension. Next activity is also a short reading on the creation of a different song, Ay Haiti to benefit Haiti after the 2010 earthquake with a few comprehension questions. This song is also included with blanks for students to fill in as they listen to it.You may want to show your students both videos after all activities are done as they are quite beautiful and would then have much more meaning. As this packet includes several activities, you may want to space them out over several days. Instructions for all activities are included.
