This system was one of the main points mentioned on my 'Teacher of the Year' nomination as the parents and students found it empowering, clear and eary to follow.
I have left it as a 'word' document so you can change the reward/consequence etc... to match your own classes decisions.
Step 1 - Talk about how rewards go up and bad choices go down (like a frown and a smile)
Step 2 - Decide/negotiate on rewards and consequences - ie: get bigger each step
Step 3 - Have each student sign the staircase
Step 4 - Send a copy home for parents to see
I have the reward stairs up on a wall so I can easily see who needs a bit of extra 'lloking for good things' and keep a secret book of the inidividual consequence stairs in my desk that I bring out to talk to the child in question about - I also record the negative choice
The reward stairs I just stamp or get the student to stamp the next step up and claim their reward - it's a never ending staircase :)
