Awesome Osmosis is a great lab activity for teaching the concepts of osmosis, diffusion, and solutions. Students will learn to differentiate between hypertonic and hypotonic solutions and identify concentration gradients that exist within biological systems.
In this lab, potatoes are placed in sucrose or saline solutions to demonstrate the movement of water molecules from areas of low concentration to areas of high concentration.
This is an all inclusive packet that contains a pre-lab lesson with notes and demonstrations, the lab, and post lab questions and analysis (with teacher’s notes and a key).
It also includes a table to guide students and help them organize information that will be used in the lab report.
This is a perfect lab to use when reviewing scientific process skills like graphing or using triple beam balances!
