What educators are saying

I chose this for extra practice for my students to reinforce their textbook. It is also useful for review days when I just can't think on the fly of examples to put on the board.
Another great Room 213 resource to help students craft stronger writing pieces and improve their diction choices.

Description

AWKWARD WORDING: Sentences can be awkward for many reasons, but this product focuses on five of the most common. The slide show will introduce your students to awkwardness created by:

-Misused and misplaced phrases and clauses

-Passive voice

-Faulty parallel structure

-Wordiness

-Weak verbs

UPDATED FOR USE ON GOOGLE SLIDES

The slide show presents five mini-lessons that focus on each of the above topics. Each day you can:

1. Introduce one topic

2. Assign the corresponding exercise for class or homework

3. Review the concept from the previous day

4. Introduce the next concept and repeat until each topic is

covered

*If you use this while students are working on a piece of writing, each day have them revise, based on the topic that you cover on that day.

Once you have covered each topic, students will work on the paragraph exercises. Each of these include a mix of the five types of awkward writing, so students will need to apply their knowledge in order to revise them.

I have included a handout and bookmarks that students can use while revising their work.
