Aztecs are part of the Social Studies curriculum in our middle school. Therefore, I like to re-teach it in Spanish. The Web Quest helps students recall as well as the PPT in PDF format.
To enhance reading I have also included PPTs in PDF format for popular Aztec legends (Mesoamerica and Colonial legends) PPT contain the text for the legends which may also be found online.
There's also a PPT for a short story that makes connections to the Aztecs.
I like to start first with a Web Quest:
Then to recap the accomplishments of the Aztecs and make a connection to Mayas I like to use a PPT. While students view the PPT they work on a KWL chart:
I follow up with a favorite legend "Los Novios" that takes place in Mesoamerica and explains the formation of the two volcanoes in Mexico City:
I also like to read with them another legend "Los árboles de flores blancas". This legends is great for conflict resolution. The PPT has the text for the legedn along with visuals to facilitate comprehension.
As a culminating activity, I like to read a short story that makes connections to "La Guerra Florida" which is when the Aztecs hunted down other indigenous tribes to enslave them and use for sacrifices.
All items are in the target language and are also sold separately at my TPT store.
May also be included in other bundles.
