This pack of activities was designed to help students who struggle with b and d reversals. The activities are intended for small group practice, but can be included in independent centers for those students who are making more progress.
**Letter Search – Two different forms of letter searches are included – one with random placement of the letters and the other with the placement in a grid. The student identifies all occurrences of the target letter and either circles or highlights it.
**Match Up Activity & Worksheet – Students match a b or d to a picture and the written word, completing the word. Some words may be beyond the students’ reading level, but with your support in a small group, this can be a successful activity. As a follow up to this activity, students complete a similar worksheet by writing either b or d where it belongs to complete the word.
**B & D Sort – Print, cut, and laminate these cards for a sorting activity.
**Clip Cards – Give each person a clip card strip and a clothes pin. The student will be listening for the b or d sound at the beginning, middle, or end of a word (whichever you determine). The student will put the clothes pin on the letter they hear.
**Finish the Sentence – Students write the missing b or d in words to complete sentences. If the student is a lower reader, you can read the sentences to the student. The target word can be read or not. For higher readers who still struggle with reversals, this can be done independently.
**Writing Practice – Students will practice writing the letter b and d, as well as some words that begin with b and d. Both primary and intermediate lines are included.
