Everything you would like to teach about bar graphs is contained in this ultimate bar graph collection pack. This 107 page booklet features interactive pictographs and bar graphs in the ‘Bar Graphs Interactive Fun' collection and a wide variety of class surveys undertaken in the ‘Bar Graphs Class Surveys’ collection. In addition, there are four other graphing activities that enable students to move from the concrete to the abstract.

Graphs target students of different ability levels and are categorized into two main sections:

A. WORKING WITH THE CONCRETE:
Activities involve using concrete materials such as pictures, dice, spinners, coins and smarties/M&M'S to collect, tabulate, graph and interpret data in bar/column graphs.

The following pictographs are contained in this section. All graphs include questions that interpret collected data.

1. Cupcakes Sold Pictograph
This graph requires students to interpret data represented in pictures. A symbol represents two votes.

2. Favorite/favourite Excursion Pictograph
This pictograph is slightly more challenging. A symbol represents three votes. Parts of the symbol are also represented as one and two votes.

3. Bus Arrivals Pictograph
This pictograph is equally challenging and requires students to interpret data represented by picture symbols denoting ten and five votes.

4. Soccer Match Pictograph
Students draw a pictograph on given tabulated data using symbols that stand for one vote.

5. Pocket Money Spent Pictograph
A pictograph is drawn on data given in a table using symbols that stand for two votes. Part of the symbol is used to denote 1 vote.

6. Ice-cream Sales Pictograph
This challenging activity requires student to draw a pictograph on tabulated data using parts of a symbol that represents 1-5 votes.

The following bar graphs are also contained in this section. All graphs include questions that interpret collected data.

7. Lolly Bar Graph
This graph is relatively easy and requires students to count the number of colored lollies and record data in a tally table and bar graph.

8. Roll-a-Die Bar Graph
Students roll a six-sided die fifteen times and collect data in a tally table. Data collected is then represented in a bar graph.

9. Spin a Color Bar Graph
A spinner is spun fifteen times and a tally mark is drawn for each color that the spinner lands on. Data is tabulated and represented in a bar graph. Question #6 is fairly challenging and requires students to write the number of times that each color is spun as a fraction. An extension activity would involve simplifying the fraction. A black and white version of this activity is also available.

10. Spin a Sea Creature Bar Graph
A spinner is spun twenty times and data is then tabulated and represented in a bar graph.

11. Smarties / M&M'S Bar Graph
A pack of smarties is sorted according to their colors. Data is tabulated and represented in a bar graph. Students write number sentences on graphed data, numbers as fractions and in their place value.

12. Coin Toss Bar Graph
Three coins are tossed. The number of Heads are tabulated and represented in a bar graph.

B. WORKING FROM THE CONCRETE TO THE ABSTRACT
Activities involve graphing given tabulated data and interpreting graphed data. Students title the axes and draw up a scale in intervals.

13. Breakfast Bar Graph
Data in a tally table is given. Students graph given data in a bar graph. Instructions require students to title the axes and mark the intervals.

14. Favorite Color Bar Graph
Students graph given data on a tally table. They title the horizontal x-axis and the vertical y-axis and mark the intervals.

15. It’s for Charity Bar Graph
This graph is slightly more challenging. Students graph tabulated data in intervals marked in 10s from 0 to 40.

16. Type of Transport
Data is represented in a bar graph. Students tabulate information and answer questions to interpret the graph. Question #7 requires students to add data to the graph on the basis of new information.

17. Cupcake Sales
The bar graph shows the number of cupcakes sold every hour. Students tabulate graphed data and answer questions.

C. OUR CLASS BAR GRAPHS COLLECTION
This set of bar graphs require students to conduct surveys to collect and tabulate data. They then graph the data on a grid, record findings and write down two questions to ask a friend. The first few graphs have the scale drawn and the intervals marked, however in consecutive graphs students draw up their own scale and mark the intervals.

Bar graphs under this section include:
* Favorite food
* Favorite Sport
* Favorite Subject
* Favorite Ice-cream
* Sales at the Canteen
* Favorite Color
* Favorite pasta
* Favorite season
* Our Birthday Months

In addition, the following three graphs require students to collect data against their own categories on a given subject.
Best Movie, Best Game and Best Music Artist

D. SPINNERS AND FLASHCARDS
This section contains blank spinners for students to color and create their own data to be graphed. Mathematical language in flashcards contain 39 key vocabulary words used when working with bar graphs.

* Answer keys included for relevant sections (except surveys).
