*PDF FILE*
This resource is an interactive nonfiction/expository unit that will aid kids in learning about nonfiction text features.

They will create their OWN informational resource (their book) as a reference for a writing piece.

Kids interact with informational text features in an alternative way.
This is a cross between book arts and informational text!

**This has real bat pictures and facts, paragraphs, headings, and other nonfiction text features. Kids end up with an envelope book with fact cards.

** A final activity includes a short report on bats using a graphic organizer to help write the most important facts about bats.

**A glossary for vocabulary meanings is included, for writing reference.

** Bat templates for report writing words and for their own words to add. The template can also be used for playing a memory game.

**An informal rubric is included so that students can evaluate their own learning.

**The final "book" is made up of informational cards that slip inside a square envelope.

*REPORT TEMPLATE
Have your kids do a short report after they make the envelope book--or possibly before, if you want the book to be the culminating activity.

-Use this in your science center, literacy center, or independent work.

*ADD TO A BAT LAP BOOK!
It can also be added to a lap book, or added to folder project. But it is great as a stand-alone project, too. Your students may want to use this as part of a science exhibit. The envelope book makes a good study guide for doing reports or creating other bat projects.

-It may be worked on over a few lesson periods--or a few days.

-This informational resource covers the common core standards in the area of informational text and writing, especially for 3-4.

*Students will also use:
-vocabulary
-glossary
-headings to match paragraphs
-diagrams, labeling a bat
-side bars
-photos of real bats
-bat poster/ or graphic organizer
-bat trivia cards
-Fact or Myth page
-Report Writing Frame
-Self-Evaluation Checklist (reflection)

*EDITABLE FILE*
You will also receive a 4 page editable report that includes a template, poster (or graphic organizer), stationery, and a student reflection page.
